Her Brother
1960
Her Brother (おとうと , Otōto , lit. "Younger brother") is a 1960 Japanese drama film directed by Kon Ichikawa. The film is based on the novel Otōto by Aya Koda.[1][2] It was entered into the 1961 Cannes Film Festival, where it won a prize for Special Distinction.[3]
In order to achieve a desaturated look for the film, Ichikawa and cameraman Kazuo Miyagawa devised the cinematographic technique known as bleach bypass. Ichikawa had been inspired by the photography for John Huston's 1956 adaptation of Moby-Dick.[citation needed ]
