Promises in the Dark

Promises in the Dark is a 1979 American drama film directed by Jerome Hellman and written by Loring Mandel. The film stars Marsha Mason, Ned Beatty, Susan Clark, Michael Brandon, Kathleen Beller and Paul Clemens. The film was released by Warner Bros. and Orion Pictures on November 2, 1979.[2][3][4]

For their performances, Marsha Mason earned a nomination for Best Actress - Drama while Kathleen Beller got another nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 37th Golden Globe Awards. The awards, however, went to Sally Field (Norma Rae) and Meryl Streep (Kramer vs. Kramer). Field and Streep would go on to win the same awards at the 52nd Academy Awards. Marsha Mason was likewise nominated at the 37th Golden Globe Awards in the same year for Best Actress - Comedy or Musical for Chapter Two. However, Mason and Beller's Golden Globe nominations for the film did not translate into Oscar nominations, with Mason being nominated instead for an Oscar for Chapter Two.
